Happy Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is coming and I hope you are planning something wonderful for your mom.  Me? My mom is gone now and I will spend the day in memory of her.

This is not meant to bring you down. It is meant to lift you up to a place where you understand the gift you have and be thankful. Or perhaps forgive. Parents are people too, you know.

Moms are different. There’s the traditional mom who cooks, cleans and sews. There’s the mom who roller blades and plays ball with her kids in the backyard. There is the mom who prays for her children diligently. There are children who pray for their moms.

Regardless, she is Mom. Buy a card. Do the dishes. Pick a rose.

Above all else, tell her you love her.

“The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.” - Honore de Balzac (1799-1850)

“Youth fades; love droops, the leaves of friendship fall; A mother’s secret hope outlives them all.” - Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1894)

Margery Phelps’ article on how to be a good parent is an amazingly inspiring piece. The perfect read for Mother’s Day.

There are lots of poems for Mother’s Day on About.com.
